Cantonese Dim Sum

Dim Sum for Lunch

For lunch today we had a large selection of some of Singapore’s best Dim Sum at Maxwell’s Restaurant.  Dim sum consists of a variety of dumplings, steamed dishes and other goodies. They are similar to hors d’oeuvres, the hot and cold delicacies served at French restaurants.  Dim Sum means “to touch your heart” and is served in combination with hot tea.  Today we had chrysanthemum tea – a common choice for hot climates as chrysanthemum is known to cool the body from the inside.

Our menu today included the following:

  • Shark fin soup
  • Mango, Banana and Prawn Spring Rolls (very, very good)
  • Vegetable Springs Rolls
  • Carrot Cake (white carrots sauteed in a pan – much like a potato cake)
  • White Beancurd Spring Rolls
  • Chinese Honey Buns (light bread filled with Chinese BBQ Pork – also very, very good)
  • Roasted Pork and Crispy Duck with Sweet and Chili Sauces
  • Rice steamed in banana leaves
  • Shanghai Soup Dumplings
  • Coconut Balls with Lotus filling
  • Chinese Egg Custards (very light and wonderful dessert)
